Human Trafficker Handed 4 Year Sentence

The first human trafficking conviction in York Regions's history lead to a four year sentence, for resident of Richmond Hill. Jason Reid who is 28 years old, was sentenced for human trafficking possessing a loaded restircted firearm and breaching a prior weapons prohibition order. His sentencing took place at the Newmarket courthouse.Reid was first arrested on September 29th, when police heard about a woman from Richmond Hill being forced into the sex trade. Reid has possession of both the woman and her son, neither of which can be named due to protective issues. He was introduced to the pair through a mutual friend, and kept them in his custody through the use of threatening acts of violence, even once going as far as to show the woman a sawed off shotgun.

As per Wikipedia , human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings for the purposes of reproductive slavery, commercial sexual exploitation, forced labor of a modern- day form of slavery. This is an austere crime to commit, and a crime one would think that would not happen in my home of York Region.  I'm glad that this is only the first instance, but also sad that this dire crime had to occur. I reprimand the actions of Jason Reid, whose actions are irrevocable. This woman and her child will be scarred for life. The real villain in this scenario is the friend whom, allowed Jason to make acquaintance with the victims. In conclusion , these acts were unacceptable, and I really hope that the terror that is human trafficking, is something the citizens of York Region never have to deal with again.
